Verizon Fios vs Cablevision Optimum

Verizon has been heavily promoting their internet/tv technology.

The following are reasons why Verizon Fios is better than Cablevision Optimum

1. Better technology
- Fios has newer cable boxes and box software. So things zip around quickly with no delay. Cablevision is still using the same cable boxes they used like 10 years ago. We have been VERY disappointed with Cablevision's box technology.

The following are reasons why Cablevision Optimum is better than Verizon Fios

1. Cable vision has no contract
- Fios comes with a hefty 2-3 year contract which includes hefty cancellation fees. That is always an ugly practice. If their product is so good... why lock people in?!?! Cablevisions is month to month. What if you get Fios and decide to move?

2. Cablevision Optimum is cheaper
- When we last priced out Fios for home and for business it was noticeably more expensive for the same exact Internet speeds and channels.

3. News12
- News12 is ONLY on cablevision. News12 is one of those things that you take for granted until you want to use it. Its mostly pointless to watch News12... unless something local and important is happening. Then you will give yourself a little kick for having Fios.

4. 24/7/365 Support
- Cablevision has wonderful support 24/7. If your on demand doesnt work at 2am when you cant sleep.... a quick 10 minute phone call will fix it. Verizon Fios only has support during normal business hours. Sales too. When we first noticed we thought it was a joke... but then we didnt laugh so we realized Verizon was serious.

Overview
Although we have been frustrated with Cablevision and the pathetic cable boxes, their Internet and phone service is GREAT. Cablevision's support, pricing, and lack of contract makes it a bit better than Fios for most people.

If you are 100% certain that you will live in one location for over 2 years, and dont mind a higher cost and horrible support hours then Verizon Fios is a better product.
